Home Business opportunity Review:

usana

Company founded in 1992 by founder and chairman, Dr. Myron Wentz who has background in microbiology, immunology and cell biology. It is basically a wellness nutritional supplement, muti-level marketing company with distributors to promote their products and recruit more distributors.

Most of the information can be found in the Usana Company Web Site

So...I like to show you some special, recent and arguable issues that you may not be aware of and I found them quite interesting.

Recent update

  • It has been rated one of the fastest growing Nasdaq company.
  • Top-selling products, USANA Essentials and Proflavanol, represented approximately 21% and 9%, respectively, of net sales for the quarter ended June 28, 2003.
  • A price increase on two key products, Essentials and HealthPak 100T in North America.
  • An increase in the commission payout rate in the Australia-New Zealand market with no corresponding increase in the product price, and
  • The elimination of payment processing fees charged to customers in the North America and Australia-New Zealand markets.

Please tell me how your product compares with the USANA essentials?

To answer this question Warren Matthews replies in Xtend-Life :

USANA produce some good quality but over priced products. Their essentials are a basic multi nutrient. They do not include such important nutrients such as Gingko Biloba. To include these and other important nutrients it is necessary to purchase additional products and then it becomes really expensive.

We did a full analysis of their products about a year ago and from memory if you compared 'apples for apples' the cost of it's products worked out about 400% more than Xtend-Life products. This is primarily due not so much to the ingredients but rather their chosen method of marketing(MLM). It's products if you ignore the poor value for money are probably better than most products on the market, but they do not match Xtend-Life for efficacy.

Current issues regarding the effect of Beta Carotene in Usana Essential

The current studies do not present enough evidence that anyone should give up the benefits of beta carotene. Smokers should be aware of the non-statistically significant rise in cancer cases when beta carotene was used together with 25,000 IU of vitamin A. If it turns out that the group taking the beta carotene and vitamin A, and that's a big IF, did in fact have a biologically significant increase in cancer cases then the question is, was it the:
A.Beta carotene B.Vitamin A or C.A combination of the two that was responsible for the rise?

We question the validity of the studies and whether the conclusions are valid and think that smokers have nothing to fear from taking beta carotene. Our advice to smokers who are worried about the effects of beta carotene and vitamin A, is to take a supplement that does not contain high doses of beta carotene and has a maximum of 10,000 IU of vitamin A.

The Essentials provide about one third of the amount of beta carotene used in the CARET, although the dose is still more than the minimum RDA requirement, it is not a mega dose. The company is continuing to research the reported findings of CARET and PHS. Updates will be provided as the scientific data becomes available.

"Comparative Guide" Challenge By Melaleuca

There is a book written by Lyle MacWilliam, "Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements" which compared over 500 nutritional supplements and tell you how superior their products are compare to other companies' product.

You can find some more information in this website who is distributing Usana products , so beware!

A challenge article to Usana from Melaleuca, getting to the bottom of Lyle MacWilliam's - comparative guide to nutritional supplements is telling people:

  • Who is Lyle MacWilliam?
  • What hasn't been done scientifically?
  • How does he selectively using old or biased data to benefit his intended findings?
  • How he used his self testing benchmark standard to test the quality of products?
  • Why more doesn't mean better?
  • Why can't you trust the comparative guide?
  • Why this is a marketing piece created for distributors?

Very interesting articles from both companies, I think the comparative guide would attract many buyers. Personally I believed the Melaleuca article is an open and honest opinion response to the comparative guide. It make me feel how untheical a business can be when coming to money. I just don't have any more time to go into further investigation into their arguments.

Conclusion

I would advice anyone interested in this company go and have a look at the Melaleuca's article. I do found it has an open and honest opinion which make sense to me. I would doubt their ethical level towards their products and business opportunities.

Bottom line is...

If their products are so much better than 500 other companies, how come the guarantee is only 30 days? While Melaleuca is giving not only 90 days, but also empty bottle gaurantee.

P.S. I like to keep it simple in choosing an opportunity from many home businesses. I just don't have the time to think too much!
